Mohamed Salah could be set for Darwin Nunez reunion at Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor may soon welcome back Mohamed Salah, who previously played alongside him at Liverpool, as the Turkish club eyes a reunion with the former teammate. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has indicated that Darwin Nunez, a prolific striker, is of interest to the club, with negotiations already underway with Nunez's Saudi Arabian club, Al Hilal.

Nunez, who cost Al Hilal approximately €54 million last season, made just 24 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. However, his time at the club was marred by limited playing time after the arrival of Karim Benzema in the transfer window. Nunez is currently contracted with Al Hilal until 2028, but the club prefers a straight transfer deal to maximize their return from the sale.

Salah and Nunez shared three successful seasons at Liverpool, culminating in the 2024/25 Premier League title. While Nunez's goal tally of 40 in 143 appearances fell short of Salah's impressive 29 league goals, their partnership proved fruitful. Trabzonspor's acquisition of Salah last month marked a significant coup, as the Egyptian forward showcased his World Cup prowess, leading Egypt to the last 16.

With Trabzonspor targeting a third-place finish in the Super Lig and aiming to challenge Istanbul's traditional football powers, the signing of Salah (expected to debut against Kasimpasa) could provide the boost the team needs for a successful season.
