MetMalaysia: Sarawak’s hot, dry spell could keep haze hanging around till Aug 20 while thunderstorms lash peninsula

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — A hot and dry spell in Sarawak and parts of Borneo may keep haze around until Aug 20, raising health concerns, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia). The weather pattern is attributed to southerly winds and a high concentration of hotspots in the region. As of 10am, 10 areas in Malaysia reported unhealthy Air Pollutant Index levels, mainly in Sarawak.

Simultaneously, MetMalaysia issued a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain in several states, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, and Selangor, affecting several districts. Residents are urged to monitor updates via MetMalaysia's website, social media, and the myCuaca app.
