MetMalaysia: Sarawak’s hot, dry spell could keep haze hanging around till Aug 20 while thunderstorms lash peninsula

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning that hot and dry weather is expected to continue in Sarawak and several Borneo regions until Aug 20. This prolonged dry spell could keep haze and reduce visibility, especially in southern Sarawak. The weather conditions are believed to be influenced by southerly winds and a high number of hotspots in Borneo.

As of 10am today, 10 areas across the country recorded Air Pollutant Index readings at unhealthy levels, with most of the locations in Sarawak. In parallel, MetMalaysia has issued a thunderstorm and heavy rain warning for Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur, including several areas in Perak, Selangor.
