Methu: Ruto should leave Uhuru alone

Nyandarua Senator Methu has defended retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, urging President William Ruto to stop criticizing the former leader. Speaking in Naivasha on Friday, August 14, 2026, Methu told Ruto to focus on political opponents instead of targeting Uhuru for the 2027 General Election. Methu challenged Ruto to confront the political rival and equal, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, rather than continually criticizing Uhuru.

Similarly, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu pledged to stand up for Uhuru and prevent anyone from dragging the retired president into political battles. The senators’ statements followed defense remarks from MP Wanjiku Muhia, who attributed the Democratic Congress Party's victory in the Ol Kalou by-election to attacks on Mount Kenya leaders, including Uhuru Kenyatta and Gachagua. Muhia insisted that despite differing political stances in 2022, the government supporters continue to attack Uhuru.

Gachagua vowed to protect Uhuru, asserting that he will not allow anyone to unfairly target the former president. The mounting support for Uhuru comes amid renewed political exchanges among leaders from the Mount Kenya region, with the former president remaining a central figure in region's political discussions despite retiring from active politics.
