Meet new US Consul General in Lagos, Brandon Hudspeth

The United States has appointed Brandon Hudspeth as the new Consul General in Lagos, Nigeria. Hudspeth, a career Foreign Service officer, will serve a three-year term as the senior U.S. representative for the country's 17 southern states. He is replacing Rick Swart, who recently retired from the Foreign Service. Hudspeth previously worked as the Political-Economic Section Chief at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos from 2020 to 2022.

During his return, Hudspeth expressed his pride in joining the U.S.-Nigeria partnership again, emphasizing the shared energy, innovation, and entrepreneurship between the two nations. His priorities for his tenure include enhancing trade and investment, promoting innovation, strengthening collaboration in technology and creative industries, and creating new opportunities for shared prosperity between Nigeria and the United States.

Before his current posting, Hudspeth held various diplomatic positions across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Washington, D.C., including serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia. He also led U.S. civilian assistance programs in the Philippines and worked in Bamako, Mali, Havana, Cuba, and Kabul, Afghanistan.
