Marvel fans apologise to your wallets, the PlayStation x Wolverine collab is here

Marvel's Wolverine is set to launch on disc, just as physical gaming appears to be fading away. Fans of the X-Men universe are eagerly anticipating Insomniac Games' new title for PlayStation 5 consoles. According to project director Jess Reiner-Reed, Wolverine will be among the last PS5 games designed as a complete experience that works out of the box.

During an interview, Reiner-Reed revealed that the game will be fully playable from the disc, allowing users to enjoy the experience straight out of the box without a mandatory day-one download. The upcoming action game will be available in both physical and digital editions. Insomniac developers are currently working on a day-one patch to further polish the game, though there is no requirement to download the update before players can start playing.

Despite confirming the game's on-disc experience, Reiner-Reer encourages gamers to download the patch as well, as Insomniac's perfectionistic approach to development could result in significant improvements. Physical releases are suddenly experiencing a resurgence among gamers following Sony's announcement to stop producing physical games starting in 2028.

While Insomniac representatives declined to comment on Sony's decision, the studio remains focused on delivering an exceptional gaming experience. Wolverine will recount the story of the Marvel character during his amnesiac phase, as he attempts to regain his long-lost memories and assists Jean Grey and other X-Men characters in freeing mutants abducted by Trask Industries.

Though featuring many recurring characters from the franchise, Marvel's Wolverine will not include a full representation of the X-Men collective just yet.
