Maresca discusses Rodri, Enzo Fernandez as Reijnders prepares to leave Man City in midfield overhaul

Manchester City's manager Enzo Maresca provided no reassurances about the future of midfielder Rodri on Friday, while also stating that fellow midfielder Tijjani Reijnders was set to depart after just one season. Maresca noted that the transfer window is open, meaning both buying and selling players is possible.

Rodri received a "big hug" when he returned to City following an extended break, during which he helped Spain win the World Cup and underwent minor back surgery. Maresca indicated that Rodri might not feature in Sunday's Community Shield match against Arsenal, as he is currently following a rehabilitation program.

Speculation regarding the overhaul of City's midfield has been ongoing, with Rodri's departure from the club being discussed. When asked about potential interest in signing Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, Maresca declined to comment. However, he was more forthcoming about Reijnders, whose transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah is reportedly in progress.

Maresca confirmed that Reijnders had agreed to leave City, likening his decision to that of goalkeeper James Trafford, who joined Leeds earlier this summer to increase his playing time.
