Maid jailed after struggle over walking stick leaves 94-year-old employer with head injury

A foreign domestic worker from Indonesia has been jailed for eight weeks after a struggle with her elderly employer in Singapore. Sulastri Wulandari, 31, was accused of causing hurt to her 94-year-old employer by repeatedly striking his bedroom door with his walking stick. The incident occurred on February 21, 2026, when the employer asked Sulastri to take him out for food and she shut the door in his face.

Disappointed, the employer picked up his walking stick and struck the door for about 10 seconds. Sulastri saw the scene and reacted by grabbing the walking stick and struggling with her employer for 20 seconds. The scuffle resulted in the victim falling backward and hitting his head on a wall, causing a head injury. Sulastri immediately attended to him, and the incident was recorded on CCTV.

The victim suffered a 2cm laceration on his scalp and bleeding in his brain. He was hospitalized from February 22 to 25 for treatment. Sulastri was found guilty of causing hurt by a rash act against a vulnerable person and was sentenced to eight weeks in jail. The prosecution argued that the victim's age and physical infirmity made him vulnerable, and Sulastri's abuse of trust was a significant factor in her sentencing.
