Maid jailed after struggle over walking stick leaves 94-year-old employer with head injury

A foreign domestic worker from Indonesia has been sentenced to eight weeks in jail for a struggle with her 94-year-old employer who suffered a head injury during the altercation. Sulastri Wulandari, 31, was the caretaker for the elderly man, assisting him with daily activities in their separate bedroom. On February 21, 2026, Sulastri was in her room when the victim knocked on the door to go out for food.

He asked her if she had already eaten and then slammed the door shut. When Sulastri opened the door, she saw the victim holding his walking stick and, angered, grabbed it to try to wrest it away. They struggled for 20 seconds, with the helper attempting to pry the victim's hands off the stick. The elderly man fell backward, hitting his head on a wall and bleeding, while Sulastri tended to him immediately.

CCTV footage showed the incident, and Sulastri admitted guilt. The prosecution argued she endangered a vulnerable person due to the victim's age and dependence on her, but his lack of mental infirmity and ability to resist the attack mitigated her culpability. The judge sentenced her to eight weeks in jail, acknowledging her early plea of guilt and cooperation with authorities.
