Mahama summons TDC, TMA officials over Community 1 Site 3 dispute

President John Dramani Mahama has convened a crucial meeting on Monday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. to resolve a dispute surrounding a development project at Community One Site Three in Tema. The gathering will bring together key figures from the Tema Development Company (TDC) and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to discuss the ongoing conflict.

The TDC's Managing Director, Courage Nunekpeku, and the TMA's Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ebi Bright, will participate in the session, alongside the Minister for Local Government and the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources. This intervention comes after a disagreement between the two organizations regarding an infilling and development project at the site.

The TMA has ordered the TDC to halt the works, claiming the project is being carried out without the required permit. Furthermore, the Assembly has expressed concerns from residents about activities at the project site, including the felling of approximately 50 trees, demolition of structures, encroachment on playgrounds and green belts, and obstruction of access routes.

The President's directive to hold the meeting was issued on Friday, August 14. The primary objective of the session is for all parties to present their perspectives, address the concerns raised, and reach a resolution to the dispute. Additionally, the meeting aims to determine how the project should continue while ensuring the protection and proper use of public spaces within the Community One Site Three area.
