Madhavan says he treated son Vedaant as adult at 5, warned him against ‘reflected glory’

Renowned actor R Madhavan revealed that he treated his son Vedaant, an accomplished 20-year-old international freestyle swimmer, as an adult from a young age. In an interview with The Hindu, Madhavan discussed his approach to parenting Vedaant, who is also a celebrity child due to his father's fame. Madhavan explained that he emphasized to his son the concept of "reflected glory," explaining that his son's achievements would be enhanced by the fact that he was his son.

However, he cautioned that such attention is fleeting and urged his son to avoid making foolish decisions in an attempt to maintain it. Despite Vedaant being one of the better swimmers among his peers, Madhavan noted that there are other swimmers who require more recognition. The actor emphasized that Vedaant maintains a disciplined routine, going to bed at 8:00 pm and waking up at 4:00 am to train.

While Vedaant is still competing for India, Madhavan acknowledged that there are other swimmers who deserve more attention. Madhavan, however, ensures to draw a line between privilege and parenting, expressing his concern about the balance between facilitating his son's success and allowing him to earn victories independently.
