Independence Day 2026: Bhopal Gen Z Celebrates With Slum Children, Reels Contest And Bike Rides

In Bhopal, the city's Gen Z population is set to observe Independence Day 2026 by engaging with slum children, hosting a creators' meetup, and participating in bike rides. However, many in this demographic feel that although India gained independence decades ago, women still struggle for genuine freedom.

Devyani Pisal, a 23-year-old engineering student, content creator, and model, has planned to join a bike ride on Independence Day. She and her group have organized a creators meetup titled "Creators for Bharat" at Kerwa Dam on August 17. A Reels Contest centered around Independence Day will also be part of the meetup. Devyani has prepared a reel documenting how Independence Day celebrations have evolved since her school days.

For her, Independence Day signifies the freedom to be oneself, pursue dreams, and express oneself without inhibition.

Divya Yadav, a 29-year-old leader of the Fly Foundation, intends to conduct a program at the Rajiv Nagar slum cluster in Kotra Sultanabad, where she has been teaching underprivileged children. Her journey started with five children, and now 17 students attend her classes. Divya emphasizes that while the nation is free, women are yet to attain true freedom. She faced opposition from her family when she decided to work in the slums.

Akshat Tiwari, a 30-year-old founder of Jai Hind Bro Group, plans to join a bike ride on Independence Day. He believes that patriotism should guide people beyond just specific days. Akshat intends to use Independence Day to share stories of freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, whom he regards as his guru. He laments that even figures like Bhagat Singh would be considered slaves in the eyes of those who still face oppression.

The city will witness a Grand Tiranga Yatra in Bhopal on the eve of Independence Day, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and MLA Rameshwar Sharma participating in the rally in a Gypsy.
