In Australia, the installation of home batteries has surged since the government introduced a subsidy program in July 2025, resulting in over 500,000 batteries being installed across the country. This remarkable achievement has not only led to a significant reduction in wholesale power prices, cutting them roughly in half, but also propelled Australia to claim the world's top spot in rooftop solar adoption, with panels installed on more than one in three households.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen attributed the success to the government's efforts in utilizing surplus solar energy, offering free power to homeowners in select regions, and incentivizing the use of home batteries through a 30 percent discount on residential battery systems. These initiatives have led to a dramatic decrease in the need for centralized power plants, as homeowners are now better equipped to manage the abundant solar power generated by their rooftops.

Consequently, this has not only lowered energy costs for other ratepayers but also propelled Australia to become one of the few countries reducing wholesale prices amidst a global energy crisis.
