I’m not expecting overnight change – AGI CEO cautions on 24-Hour Economy

Seth Twum Akwaboah, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), has cautioned against expecting immediate results from the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy. He emphasized that the policy's success should be measured by the specific programmes and interventions the government implements, rather than its name or slogan.

In an interview on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition, Mr. Akwaboah stressed that the 24-hour economy must be assessed based on its development, consultation processes, and practical measures. He urged that the effectiveness of any policy hinges on its development processes and the selected activities to achieve its objectives, rather than the policy's catchy name.

Mr. Akwaboah acknowledged initial uncertainty surrounding the 24-hour economy but noted that recent discussions with government have clarified the initiative. He compared the policy to the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative, highlighting that new policies often set ambitious goals that cannot be achieved instantly. He urged that the 24-hour economy requires clear policies, programmes, and activities to gradually transform the country.

The AGI President expressed optimism about the policy's potential, provided it is implemented effectively, stating it could be a game-changer for Ghana's economy.
