iFixit Tears Down Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8; Gives It Provisional 4/10

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8, a foldable smartphone with a passport-like design. iFixit, the electronics teardown specialist, examined the device and provided it with a provisional 4/10 repair score. The Galaxy Z Fold8 boasts an IP48 rating, which offers decent water resistance but falls short of dust resistance offered by competitors.

The device houses two separate silicon-carbon lithium-ion batteries, which may result in needing to replace multiple components instead of just one. The modular USB-C port and the use of common Phillips screws throughout the internals contribute to the device's repairability. However, the plastic bezel around the main display is prone to chipping, and the inner screen did not survive the teardown process.

Despite this, iFixit discovered the Flex Titanium technology, which includes a titanium-alloy film and a perforated titanium plate beneath the OLED, designed to reduce the crease caused by folding.
