How F1 drivers were "drooling over" Formula E's Gen4 car

Formula E chief Jeff Dodds expressed great satisfaction when multiple Formula 1 drivers visited the Monaco E-Prix in May, praising their comments about the upcoming Gen4 cars. Lando Norris, a reigning F1 world champion, among other drivers attended the event, which was the ninth and tenth rounds of the championship, won by Nyck de Vries and Oliver Rowland respectively. Both drivers are in contention for the Formula E title heading into the London finale.

Dodds noted that the Gen4 cars will be the fastest ever, with a top speed of 208mph and a peak power output of 804bhp - approximately 70% more powerful than the current Gen3 cars. The Gen4 machines will also feature permanent all-wheel drive, a first for a single-seater racing car. At the ExCeL, Dodds said the drivers' reaction to the Gen4 car was his highlight of the season, recalling Norris saying, "600 kilowatts of power, permanent all-wheel drive, what more do you need in a race car?" and comparing the caliber of the Formula E drivers to those in Formula 1.

Dodds also highlighted the competition for the title, with only a few drivers realistically in the running, including Jake Dennis, Pascal Wehrlein, Oliver Rowland, and reigning champion Rowland. All four have multiple titles between them, and it's expected that the winner will have a compelling story to tell.
