Hippocratic AI rolls out platform to coordinate teams of conversational voice AI agents

For health plans, the AI teams support functions such as member onboarding, chronic care management and Star Ratings improvement. Provider-focused offerings target patient onboarding, care gap closure and inpatient and ambulatory workflows.

Hippocratic AI, an artificial intelligence firm, introduced a platform on Thursday that manages teams of conversational voice AI agents, known as agentic orchestrators. This innovation signifies a "significant advancement in agentic technology for healthcare," according to the company. These agentic orchestrators enable a supervising intelligence layer to decide which agent interacts with each patient, when and how, based on patient needs and responses, resulting in an "adaptive, n-of-1 experience."

There are over 30 agent orchestrators spread across various providers, payers, and life sciences. These agents can tackle tasks leading to system-level outcomes, such as decreasing readmissions and enhancing Star Ratings. Supported by Hippocratic AI's Polaris safety architecture, these agents have handled over 250 million patient interactions, validated by more than 7,700 licensed clinicians nationwide.

Munjal Shah, Hippocratic AI's CEO and co-founder, emphasized that this new platform represents a "next evolution of healthcare." In an emailed statement, he stated, "Two hundred fifty million patient interactions taught us something fundamental: point solutions will only get you so far. This is the shift: from completing individual tasks to coordinating care and engagement across every patient, member, provider, and stakeholder—and ultimately moving outcomes across entire populations. That is how we create healthcare abundance."

Health plans can leverage the AI teams for functions like member onboarding, chronic care management, pharmacy services, readmission prevention, and Star Ratings improvement. Provider-focused solutions include patient onboarding, care gap closure, pharmacy management, inpatient and ambulatory workflows, and reducing patient leakage and readmissions.

Hippocratic AI was established in 2023 with the objective of developing the first language model for healthcare. In June 2024, the company launched its inaugural generative AI healthcare agent. As of November, the startup boasts a $3.5 billion valuation after securing a $126 million Series C funding round. Recently, Hippocratic AI and WellSpan Health signed an extended multi-year partnership to expand services across the health system's network.

Under the updated agreement, Hippocratic AI's generative AI agent—Ana—will broaden its scope from managing inbound calls and scheduling primary care appointments to post-discharge follow-ups and chronic disease check-ins. The two entities also launched a structured co-development program to create clinical AI agents at WellSpan's York, Pennsylvania-based campus.
