Health minister warns contractors: Show progress or risk losing MOH projects

In Malaysia, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has issued a stern warning to contractors involved in health facility development projects. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that the government will not tolerate unreasonable delays and has the authority to terminate contracts if contractors fail to demonstrate tangible progress on-site. This measure is intended to ensure that projects are completed as per requirements, allowing the public to benefit promptly and prevent the wastage of public funds.

During a recent Development Action Council (MTPK) meeting, Dzulkefly emphasized that this issue was highlighted as a critical concern. Representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Finance Ministry were present during the discussion. To address implementation challenges at the grassroots level, the MOH is working in collaboration with the JKR, state governments, and utility companies.

As of August 2023, ten major health facilities have been completed, including the Northern Region Blood Centre in Kedah, an additional block at Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Negeri Sembilan, and the Manjoi Klinik Kesihatan in Perak. Under the "Program Cakna Madani" initiative, 268 projects, comprising 37.75 percent of the total, have been successfully completed. These projects encompass improvements to the comfort of rural clinics, expansion of haemodialysis center capacities, and replacement of outdated equipment.

Dzulkefly expressed his commitment to translating every sen of the national health allocation into a more equitable, modern, and comfortable healthcare system for the Malaysian people. He concluded his statement by hoping that the ongoing efforts will be facilitated.
