Gachagua vows to unseat Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua assured Kenyans of his intention to run against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, alleging that Ruto has not fulfilled his campaign promises. Addressing a rally in Naivasha on August 14, 2026, Gachagua highlighted the political shift following their falling out and vowed to remove Ruto from power himself through organized political efforts.

"The individual you removed from office is the one destined to remove you from the presidency you currently occupy," Gachagua asserted. As a prominent opposition figure, Gachagua accused the government of failing to deliver on its commitments, specifically mentioning the lack of piped water for every Naivasha household despite Ruto's pledge during the 2022 campaign.

He also questioned the progress on the road connecting Mvoni to Maella, which Ruto had promised to be tarmacked within six months during the 2022 election. Additionally, Gachagua criticized the administration for favoritism in employment, particularly at KenGen and geothermal facilities, alleging that positions were given preferentially to Ruto's community members.

These allegations formed a significant portion of his speech. Gachagua's comments reflect the growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition leaders seek to form a united front to challenge Ruto's re-election bid.
