Gachagua claims police watched as goons attacked his convoy in Nakuru

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of allowing armed individuals to attack his convoy in Nakuru, stating that police watched as the assailants used crude weapons. The incident reportedly occurred in Nakuru Town West Constituency ahead of several public engagements in the county. Gachagua claims the attackers were organized and funded by political figures allied to the government.

He alleges that supporters and members of the public confronted the attackers, helping secure his convoy, while journalists were also targeted. Gachagua labeled President William Ruto's warning against political violence as empty rhetoric, accusing the administration of resorting to violence to suppress political competition. He stated that the administration believes the only way to stop competition after being abandoned by Kenyans is through violence against opponents and the use of goons.

The allegations add to mounting political tensions ahead of the 2027 General Election, with rival political camps blaming each other for using violence and intimidation during public events. Gachagua warned that the alleged use of political violence could negatively impact Kenya's image among tourists, foreign visitors, diplomats, and investors.

He urged voters to use the upcoming election to change the government and noted that supporters in Njoro, Molo, and Rongai have pledged to provide protection during planned public engagements in those areas.
