Field of Dreams becomes the Hall of Fame, as 26 members come out of the corn for Phillies-Twins game

Major League Baseball returned to the Field of Dreams in Iowa for the first annual game, featuring 26 members of the Hall of Fame stepping out of the outfield corn just as in the 1989 movie. The capacity crowd of around 8,000 witnessed the surreal atmosphere as the aged stars strolled into the infield for introductions. Fireworks were launched during the national anthem, and Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies hit a memorable "stalk shot" to right on Twins starter Taj Bradley's third pitch.

Phillies slugger Schwarber followed with his own big hit, a stalk shot of his own. Both teams took their places along the lines like on opening day, with Twins All-Star Byron Buxton referencing the film's narration and invoking a line about baseball being the one constant through all the years. The legends, both past and present, were honored as former Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt and Twins catcher Joe Mauer wore their respective uniforms.

The event, held at a newly constructed ballpark, included throwback uniforms worn by both teams and a state-of-the-art video board.
