Elections Alberta addresses concerns about voter registration misinformation

Elections Alberta is addressing concerns over misinformation surrounding the upcoming Oct. 19 referendum vote. The organization assures Albertans that their information in Voterlink remains safe and secure, and no voter registrations have been removed without consent. Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure stated that if voters have participated in previous provincial elections and have not moved or changed their name, they are likely registered to vote.

Recent online posts have reported Albertans believing they have been "de-registered" from the voter roll, drawing a connection to a leak of millions of Albertans' voter information earlier this year. However, Elections Alberta insists there are no issues with Voterlink, the province's online voter registration tool. Electors can use it to register for the first time, view their registration, and update information if they've moved or changed their name.

No one can remove or delete a voter registration through Voterlink, and it does not directly access the List of Electors information system. If faced with difficulties, Albertans are encouraged to contact Elections Alberta at 780-427-7191. Expect more misinformation campaigns preceding the referendum, as Elections Alberta has run awareness campaigns to help voters identify such attempts.
