DPR Urges Govt to Focus on These 4 Priorities in 2027 State Budge

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has called on the government to prioritize four key aspects when crafting the 2027 state budget, according to DPR Speaker Puan Maharani. Puan outlined the priorities during the inaugural session of the 2026-2027 legislative year in Jakarta on August 14, 2026.

Firstly, Puan emphasized that the government should generate revenue fairly, without compromising household purchasing power or placing undue strain on businesses. She advocated for a revenue policy that enhances state finances while considering its impact on consumers and enterprises.

Secondly, Puan stressed the importance of enhancing the quality and targeted nature of government spending. She urged the government to allocate budget funds to initiatives that yield concrete results rather than merely increasing spending. Puan reminded that the state budget's significance lies in its ability to improve people's lives, not just its size or number of programs.

Thirdly, Puan called for prudence in managing the fiscal deficit and government debt. She stressed that each financing decision should weigh its potential benefits, risks, and the burden it may impose on future generations. Puan emphasized that today's policies should not burden future generations unfairly.

Lastly, Puan highlighted the fourth priority: ensuring that transfers to regional governments lead to tangible improvements in public services, local economies, and the reduction of development disparities. She maintained that the success of the 2027 state budget should be measured not solely by the allocated funds but by their impact on people's lives. Puan concluded that the measure of success in drafting the state budget is the extent to which policies, programs, and funding can enhance people's living standards.
