Breaking: Farage wins Clacton by-election over Count Binface

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has secured victory in the Clacton by-election, effectively winning the race by announcing his pre-emptive triumph. The far-right political figure had resigned and contested the seat once again following a £5 million donation controversy. An inquiry into Mr. Farage's finances will now recommence following his declared win.

The 62-year-old, formerly a commodities trader, announced his intent to stand down as an MP and recontest his parliamentary seat while under investigation for the undisclosed £5 million gift provided in 2024. Farage garnered 22,239 votes, surpassing the 21,225 votes he received during the 2024 general election. Yet, he claimed victory ahead of the official count.

In a speech to his supporters, Farage declared there would be no doubt about the outcome. The Reform UK leader also stated he would skip the official count to avoid humiliation from "nobodies." Essex police had advised Farage to avoid the count, but he dismissed this advice. Upon Farage's speech, Ian Davidson, the acting returning officer, dismissed any concerns regarding the count's security, stating there was no issue with the proceedings.

The official turnout for Thursday's by-election was 44.37%, which was higher than some by-elections but lower than Andy Burnham's Makerfield, where the turnout was around 58%. Farage ran under the slogan of "people versus the establishment," but all major UK parties boycotted the contest. He faced a record-breaking 33 candidates, including 20 independents and several from the Monster Raving Loony Party, setting a UK record.

Count Binface emerged as the main competitor, a satirist who donned a bin on his face. Farage ridiculed Count Binface as the "candidate for the establishment" during his campaign.
