Bia West NDC Chairman orders halt to cocoa fertiliser distribution, alleges partisanship

The distribution of free cocoa fertiliser to farmers in the Bia West Constituency of the Western North Region has come to a halt due to allegations of political bias, according to Ahmed Ibrahim, the NDC Constituency Chairman. Ibrahim claimed that officials from the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) were unfairly giving the fertiliser to farmers based on their political affiliations, favouring those who support the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over others.

He emphasised that the fertiliser programme was supposed to be available to all eligible cocoa farmers, irrespective of their political stance. Ibrahim's intervention aims to address these concerns and ensure that the fertiliser reaches all farmers fairly. The distribution had started in Oseikojokrom and nearby areas, but the suspension has left many farmers anxious about their future fertilizer supply.

This situation has sparked a political disagreement in the constituency, with the NPP challenging Ibrahim's decision and demanding that he and CHED officials resolve their grievances. In response, the NPP has given Ibrahim and the CHED officials three days to address the concerns, putting the future of the fertiliser distribution program in a state of uncertainty for the affected farmers.
