Beri perwakilan DAP pilihan jika mengundi kekal dalam kerajaan, kata Ramkarpal

DAP Deputy Chief Secretary Ramkarpal Singh has urged members to consider revisiting any decision to remain in the government if compelling reasons arise, for the party's benefit, during a special party congress prior to the secret vote on Sunday. In the statement, Ramkarpal noted that a slight delay may be necessary if red lines are crossed, such as the establishment of Umno seeking an apology for former Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Whether this is called a resignation clause or not, it is indeed for the party's benefit, he said. He added that members may face backlash if votes for remaining in government during the remaining parliamentary term mean votes against it regardless of what happens, even if past events make it easier to prioritize party interests.

Ramkarpal believes that members should be allowed to reconsider their decision to remain in government (if they choose to do so on Sunday) if compelling reasons arise in the future. DAP members will decide by the end of the week whether the party needs to remain or withdraw from the remaining parliamentary term positions. On Wednesday, DAP Perak voted to remain in the unity government to fulfill election promises.

Yesterday, former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming listed three possible reasons for members to vote to remain in the Cabinet, including ensuring the approval of the 2027 Budget in October. He said the only strong reason for a member to vote to continue in the DAP leadership position is to urge Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to implement at least some political reforms before the next general election.
