Asabi: 19-year-old sentenced to 15 years for robbery and causing harm

On July 21, 2026, the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team arrested 19-year-old Ahmed Mustapha in the Ashanti Region's Asokore Mampong Municipality. The suspect was accused of attacking a 25-year-old man, robbing him of his mobile phone, and causing harm near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi. Mustapha tried to flee after the incident, hiding in an unfinished building but was subsequently apprehended by the police.

Upon search, officers recovered a mobile phone believed to be the victim's and a cutlass that was possibly used during the attack. The victim suffered injuries to his forehead, neck, and left hand, which required medical attention at KNUST Hospital. After regaining consciousness, the victim was reported to be in stable condition.

Mustapha initially appeared before the Asokwa Circuit Court Two on July 27, 2026, and confessed to the charges of robbery and causing harm. He was taken into police custody. On August 10, 2026, Mustapha faced the same court, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah, where he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with hard labor. He was subsequently transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving his sentence.
