Arsenal express interest in signing Quansah

Arsenal have shown interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah, according to BBC Sport. The talks are still in the early stages, but sources suggest a deal for the 23-year-old could be possible. The potential move follows further discussions between Arsenal and Aston Villa over Aston Villa's defensive player, Ezri Konsa.

Villa is seeking around £60 million for Konsa, while Arsenal values him closer to £40 million. Quansah, a former Liverpool defender, can play both centre-back and right-back, making him a fit for Arsenal's needs. However, it remains unclear if their interest in Quansah is a tactic to pursue Konsa. Both William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are injured and unavailable for the start of Arsenal's Premier League title defence next weekend against promoted Coventry City.

Liverpool, Quansah's former club, hold the option to match any offer for him due to the deal that sent him from Anfield to Bayer Leverkusen last year. However, it is believed they have no intention of implementing his clause. Quansah was part of the England squad that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup this summer, playing three matches as a right-back before receiving a red card in the last-16 against Mexico. He scored five goals for Leverkusen during the 2021-22 season.
