Army rescues nine kidnapped victims, foil terrorist attacks in Niger

The Nigerian Army conducted successful operations to rescue nine kidnapped victims and thwart terrorist attacks in Niger State's Mariga and Rijau Local Government Areas. Captain Adebayo Adewumi, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, reported these achievements in a statement on X. On August 12, troops from the Nigerian Army Training Centre Admin Battalion rescued the victims in Mariga LGA, later returning them to their families after documentation.

Concurrently, in Rijau LGA, a fighting patrol dismantled a terrorist ambush, recovering seven motorcycles, one camel, 47 cattle, and 18 sheep. The recovered livestock were turned over to authorities. Another operation on August 10 saw troops of the Brigade’s Quick Response Force, alongside 311 Artillery Regiment and the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion, intercepting terrorists attempting to infiltrate Inana Village, Majal, and Tunga Bisallah.

The terrorists fled upon spotting the troops and abandoned their equipment. Following these operations, the 18 Brigade Commander praised the troops' courage and professionalism, urging them to maintain their operations and remain vigilant. The commander emphasized the importance of leveraging local intelligence to combat terrorist and criminal activities in the state.
