‘Architects of India’s future’: President Murmu’s praise for students amid protests

President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the importance of national security and the role of students as the architects of India's future during her address on the eve of India's 80th Independence Day. She emphasized the need for joint efforts to safeguard students' opportunities in public examinations, which are crucial gateways to success.

The President stressed that comprehensive reforms are being implemented to eliminate unfair means, increase transparency, and improve the security and trustworthiness of the examination system. Recent student protests, spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party, have criticized systemic corruption, question paper leaks, and the cancellation of high-stake exams like NEET-UG.

In response to these protests, the government passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, introducing stricter penalties, fast-track courts, and a two-month deadline for investigations. President Murmu also discussed India's historical response to terrorist attacks, Operation Sindoor, and the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan due to concerns over cross-border terrorism.

She highlighted the responsibilities of the executive, legislature, and judiciary and celebrated the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Jyotiba Phule, who championed social justice and equality. The President also praised India's robust digital infrastructure and growing global influence, emphasizing the significance of a strong cultural identity for sustainable development.
