Anambra LG chairman, foundation offer scholarship, accommodation to debate star after parents’ death

The Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area in Anambra State, Chibueze Ofobuike, has announced plans to provide financial support, accommodation, and other assistance to Richard Emmanuel Ekene Ike, a former debate star whose academic journey was disrupted following the death of his parents. Richard's story came to light when his former teacher, Joy Oñuchukwu Anopuechi, highlighted his brilliance and the challenges he faced due to polygamy and other family issues.

Ofobuike revealed that his team offered to sponsor Richard's West African Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), provide him with decent accommodation, and offer other financial support needed for survival. Additionally, Evans Emesim, known as MC Okwumereze and the founder of the Okwumereze Foundation, pledged to sponsor Richard's JAMB examination and provide him with a full scholarship for his university education.

To coordinate the support, a meeting was held between Richard, Anopuechi, and the chairman's team. They agreed that Richard should first enroll in a secondary school, prepare for and sit for his senior school examinations before proceeding with his tertiary education. Plans are underway to enroll Richard in a secondary school in September 2026, provided he passes the school's entrance examination.

The council will also provide him with necessary educational materials, including a smartphone, computer, books, and other required items for his studies.
