Agentic AI Foundation Adds 57 Members as Enterprises Push for Open Standards

The Agentic AI Foundation has welcomed 57 new members, bringing its total membership to 247, as enterprises push for open standards in the field of AI agents, tools, and data systems. This move was announced by the Linux Foundation, which serves as the shepherd for the initiative. The new members hail from various sectors, including financial services, telecommunications, and academia.

Notable new members include Alibaba Group, Visa, and Wells Fargo & Company, all of which have become Gold tier members by contributing $200,000 each to the AAIF.

The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization known for managing successful open-source projects like Linux, has a strong track record of handling open-source initiatives across different domains. The foundation not only offers support through security audits, fundraising, and certification programs but also provides legal protection for its projects. It has now been chosen to manage the Open Secure AI Alliance, which includes members like NVIDIA, Dell, and Microsoft.

The AGENTS.md document standard, initially contributed by OpenAI, has been transferred to the AAIF, providing a set of instructions and context for coding agents placed in the root directory of application source code. AAIF also oversees the Model Context Protocol (MCP), introduced by Anthropic, which has gained support from major technology providers, including OpenAI.

Another tool managed by the Linux Foundation is Goose, an open modular AI agent framework that allows developers to build agentic flows on their local environment. The creation of open tools by competitors in the market highlights the fostering of an open ecosystem by AAIF, with all vendors participating in shaping the agentic AI stack.

Membership in the AAIF is divided into paid tiers, including Gold, Silver, and Associate. Paid members can participate in general meetings, propose working groups, and access AAIF leadership. Enterprises can also contribute to open-source development of the hosted tools without seeking any permission. Since its launch in December 2025, the AAIF has made significant contributions to the agentic development space, and with the Linux Foundation leading the adoption efforts, enterprises can look forward to open and interoperable standards supporting the agentic era.
