Accra Academy @ 95: Old Boys set to celebrate heritage with grand float and homecoming

The Accra Academy Old Boys Association will host a special float and homecoming on Saturday, August 15, to celebrate the school's 95th anniversary and pay tribute to its four founders. The grand parade will commence at 7 am, departing from the Accra Academy campus and journeying through various parts of Accra. A notable stop will be made at Ellen House in James Town, the site where the institution was initially established by Ellen Barker.

The float's introduction has been primarily aimed at honoring the school's founders, according to Alfred Mills, the Organisation Secretary of the Accra Academy Old Boys Association. Mills expressed that this occasion, marking the school's 95th year, provides an opportunity to revisit the institution's humble beginnings at Ellen House. "It's a pilgrimage that we're going back to where it all began," Mills stated.

Belo Cida Haruna, the Chairman of the Float and Homecoming Committee, elaborated that the homecoming would also focus on fostering the school's growth. Old boys are set to commission an Echo Park, which will comprise 12 units of a state-of-the-art washroom facility, along with a six-unit classroom block. Haruna emphasized that the event is not merely about reconnecting and reveling in nostalgia, but also about making a positive impact and giving back to the school.

"It's not just about going back to school, having fun, and participating in activities. It's about contributing to the school and making a difference," he emphasized.

The parade will traverse through Kaneshie, Mamprobi Post Office, James Town, Atta Mills Street, Adabraka Circle, and Obetsebi, before returning to the Accra Academy campus. This significant event is anticipated to reunite old boys across generations, commemorating 95 years of the school's history and actively contributing to its ongoing development.
