최태원, 노소영에 9440억원 줄까…오늘 재상고 안 하면 재산분할 판결 확정

SK Group Chairman Choi Taek is facing a decision on a 9440 billion won alimony verdict that could finalize his property division dispute with Noh Soo-young, the director of art center Nava. The deadline for filing a counter-statement in the matter is fast approaching, with only a few days left before it expires on the 14th at midnight.

If neither party files a counter-statement or opts to withdraw their filing, the matter will be deemed finalized by the court. However, if one side does file a counter-statement, the case will be sent back to the Supreme Court for further deliberation. The ruling, issued on December 24th of last year by Seoul Central District Court's Family Division (Judge Soam Jae), stated that Choi must pay Noh 9440 billion won in cash as alimony, with daily interest payments of around 12.93 million won until the final payment is made the day after the verdict.

The dispute began when Choi revealed in 2015 through the media that he had a child from a previous relationship, leading to Noh filing a divorce petition against him. Noh also filed a counter-suit against Choi in 2019. The first-instance trial in 2022 ordered Choi to pay Noh a 1 billion won cash settlement and a cash alimony of 665 billion won.

The second-instance trial, held in May 2024, significantly increased the alimony to 20 billion won and the property division to 1.3808 billion won. However, the Supreme Court overturned part of the second-instance decision on October 10th of last year, stating that the 300 billion won in assets claimed by Noh's father, former President Noh Taewoo, were illegal income and thus not part of the property division. The 20 billion won in assets was, however, confirmed as part of the property division.
