YSRCP’s assembly boycott to continue in monsoon session

The Opposition YSR Congress Party has announced that it will continue its boycott of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the upcoming monsoon session. The decision comes after the party's refusal to accept the status of the leader of opposition, as the Speaker, Chintakayala Ayyanna Patraudu, has been unwilling to provide it.

YSRCP President and former Chief Minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, stated that the government's refusal to recognize the party as the leader of opposition is an attempt to silence its voice. He emphasized that the party would continue to raise public issues through regular media conferences to give people a different perspective on the situation.

The YSRCP has also highlighted various issues such as irregularities in the Mega DSC-2025 teachers' recruitment, the education minister Nara Lokesh's role, the implementation of fees reimbursement and Vasathi Deevena schemes, and the lack of minimum support price for crops and suspension of free crop insurance schemes for farmers.

Additionally, the party plans to address the new public-private-partnership policy, the repeal of the Disha Bill, the persecution of OBC leaders of the party, junior doctors' strike, and dissatisfaction among employees. Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patraudu expressed his discontent with the YSRCP MLAs' decision to boycott the assembly sessions, questioning the rationale behind paying their salaries when they do not attend.

He emphasized that legislators are elected to discuss public issues and raise the concerns of their constituencies in the assembly. The speaker also mentioned the introduction of a face-recognition system to prevent proxy attendance and the alleged use of forged signatures by some members. A proposal to disqualify MLAs who remain absent from the assembly for six months is currently under discussion, with a decision expected once guidelines are issued by the Central government.
