YSRCP seeks voter-friendly verification of unmapped electors

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has requested the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh and the Election Commission of India to simplify the process for verifying electors whose records have been marked as unmapped or mismatched. In a letter to the CEO on August 12, 2026, YSRCP State general secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy sought consistent guidelines on three matters: allowing parents or blood relatives to submit documents on behalf of electors, mandating a verification venue in every notice, and offering assistance through Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

The party shared the letter with the media on Thursday. Appi Reddy noted that many affected voters could be students, employees, migrant workers, or individuals temporarily residing away from their homes, who might not be able to appear in person on the specified date. He proposed that parents or relatives provide documents proving their relationship and proper authorization, which would prevent these voters from being excluded solely due to their inability to physically attend.

The representative also pointed out that some notices lacked a designated verification location, making it impossible for voters to comply without knowing where to go. He urged authorities to ensure every notice clearly stated the exact venue, date, time, and name of the officer involved. Furthermore, Appi Reddy advocated for BLOs to play a more significant role in the verification process.

Instead of requiring voters to personally contact higher-level electoral officers for assistance, BLOs should handle document submissions and preliminary verifications at the field level. The ultimate statutory decision would remain with the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, but BLO involvement would enable voters to address discrepancies locally and promptly.

Reddy appealed to the Election Commission to issue uniform instructions across the state to prevent genuine voters from being excluded due to procedural issues, temporary absences, or unclear verification notices.
