UP: Husband, two others booked as Bhadohi woman alleges assault caused miscarriage

A man, his mother, and brother have been arrested in Bhadohi after his wife accused them of assault during pregnancy, leading to a miscarriage and her being left unconscious on a roadside. The case was registered at Gopiganj police station on Wednesday by Sapna Saroj, 26, against her husband Rakesh Kumar Saroj, mother-in-law Rita Devi, and brother-in-law Brijesh Kumar Saroj.

Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 89, 85, 351, 352, and 115, the FIR has been registered. Sapna and Rakesh, who married in February 2017, have two children. Rakesh allegedly subjected his wife to physical and mental harassment for five years, refusing to accept their two children as his own. On August 10, Rakesh and Rita allegedly assaulted Sapna while she was two months pregnant, causing severe injuries and resulting in a miscarriage.

Sapna claims her husband left her unconscious and bleeding on a roadside in Gosai Bazar and fled. Passersby informed her family, leading to her being taken to Bhadohi district hospital. Her brother-in-law reportedly threatened to kill her if she reported the incident. Sapna filed a complaint on August 11, initiating the FIR and subsequent investigation.
