2026 Budget: Fubara Denies Rift With Assembly

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has denied claims of a rift between his administration and the Rivers State House of Assembly regarding the 2026 Appropriation Bill, stating that the reports are unfounded and that his government is collaborating closely with lawmakers. This denial was provided by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, in response to allegations of discord between the Executive and Legislative branches of the state government over the proposed 2026 budget.

Nzeshi affirmed that the state government is not in conflict with the House of Assembly and reaffirmed his commitment to working with the lawmakers for the benefit of the people of Rivers State. He further explained that the 2026 budget proposal has already been presented to the House of Assembly and is currently navigating the standard legislative process, with the expectation of eventual approval.

The clarification by Fubara comes amidst ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, which have previously led to disputes between the executive and legislative branches. Despite these tensions, Fubara called on stakeholders to avert measures that could reignite controversy, emphasizing that the state has suffered through past difficulties and should not be subjected to further political disputes.

He stressed that peace and harmony are crucial for the state's development and urged those propagating negative narratives to cease such actions immediately, advocating for a conducive environment for the steady growth of Rivers State.
