Ukraine’s General Staff reports damage to four Russian warships in Novorossiysk

Poland may decide within the coming days whether to provide Ukraine with further Patriot interceptor missiles, Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka stated, as per RMF FM24. The potential transfer is being discussed with NATO and the United States, she added. Poland's domestic security will be a key factor in the final determination, Sobkowiak-Czarnecka explained.

Following a recent Russian missile incursion into Polish territory, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz is now leaning towards sending Ukraine another batch of interceptors, she noted. Kosiniak-Kamysz would rather see Russian missiles destroyed over Ukrainian soil than enter Polish airspace, she emphasized. "Even though there was considerable political debate earlier about our decision to transfer the missiles, he is now leaning towards sending more because he believes it would be preferable for such a missile to be shot down over Ukrainian territory rather than enter Poland," Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said.

The final decision could be made within the next few days, she added. According to The Washington Post, European countries are hesitant to supply Ukraine with additional Patriot missiles due to fears that it might weaken their own defenses. In early August, the U.S. administration under former President Donald Trump had urged several European countries to transfer missiles from their inventories to Kyiv, but some declined due to these concerns.

On August 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine had reached an agreement with the United States on monthly deliveries of Patriot missiles, although the agreed quantities would not be sufficient. Ukraine is currently negotiating for additional interceptor missiles with European partners, including Poland and Germany, which possess the necessary equipment in their inventories, along with Scandinavian nations.
