UAH 6M bail posted for former US Ambassador Stefanishyna

Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Kateryna Stefanishyna, has been ordered to pay UAH 6 million in bail. This decision was made by the Head Office of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (HACC) on August 6 as a preventive measure. Stefanishyna is also obligated to comply with various requirements, such as appearing before NABU detectives, the prosecutor, the investigating judge, or the court as needed, notifying them of any changes in her residence, and refraining from communication with specified individuals as indicated in the investigating judge's ruling.

She has been accused of illicit enrichment and providing inaccurate information. President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed her from her ambassadorial position on August 3. Prior to that, she served as Ukraine's special envoy for developing cooperation with the United States and previously as Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) opened criminal proceedings on July 16, 2025, following a journalistic investigation by Ukrainska Pravda, which alleged a connection between Stefanishyna's former husband and a company selected by the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) to manage the House of Trade Unions in Kyiv.

Stefanishyna maintains her innocence, stating she has no link to her former husband's activities. Additionally, Transparency International Ukraine noted that Stefanishyna is also involved in the Lukash case, which concerns allegations of misappropriation of UAH 2.523 million in 2013-2014 by former Justice Minister Olena Lukash and others while she headed a department at the Justice Ministry.
