UAE's floating hospital fits 21 more Palestinian amputees with prosthetic limbs

In Egypt's floating hospital, 21 more Palestinian amputees have received prosthetic limbs, bringing the total to 72 since the humanitarian campaign began. This Step of Hope programme, launched in June, aims to assist civilians who lost limbs during the Gaza war. Recently, 21 individuals underwent assessments, with their prosthetics being custom-made and fitted at the hospital in Al Arish.

The process involves 3D scanning of patients' residual limbs, which is then shared with the floating hospital for prosthetic production. The UAE's relief efforts in Gaza, initiated after Israel's war on the enclave in October 2023, are supported by advanced medical facilities at the floating hospital, which has conducted over 5,000 operations and treated thousands of patients.

In November 2025, the hospital had 100 beds for patients and an additional 100 for relatives. The UAE has also established a field hospital and two medical centres in Gaza, providing urgent care to many suffering from cancer and war-related injuries. Recently, five more aid convoys carrying 663 tonnes of humanitarian supplies arrived in Gaza, as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3.

The operation has been ongoing for over 1,000 days, with more than Dh14.2 billion ($3.89 billion) of aid sent during this period.
