Twitch finally gives streamers an AI training opt-out after Amazon quietly used their content for years

Amazon has been quietly utilizing Twitch streamers' content for training its generative AI models for years, despite lacking transparency about this practice. In response, Twitch has now introduced an opt-out feature for users who wish to refrain from this use. However, it's worth noting that opting out won't prevent data from being utilized if one participates in chat on another streamer's channel who hasn't opted out.

This development has sparked significant backlash among Twitch creators, who feel unfairly compensated for their contributions to AI development without consent. At a 2024 event, Twitch's Chief Monetization Officer, Mike Minton, admitted to using Twitch content for AI training but did not specify if Amazon has utilized the streamers' content.

Despite this ambiguity, Minton acknowledged that opting out would be an unfeasible choice for most users, as it would likely deter potential participants. Twitch's community manager, Mary Kish, suggested that the opt-out feature is a response to the community's demand for control over their content's use in AI development.
