Twitch feeds your streams to Amazon's AI unless you tell it to stop

Twitch has introduced a setting for streamers to opt out of their channel content being used for Amazon's generative AI training. This default setting, enabled by default, covers livestreams, videos on demand, clips, highlights, text, images, and chat messages. The streaming platform has added a "Training for Generative AI" control to channel settings, giving streamers the option to exclude their content from Amazon's AI model improvements.

Twitch's chief product officer, Mike Minton, explained that opting out is beneficial for streamers as it prevents their content from being used for future generative AI model enhancements. However, the company does not specify whether opting out affects content already used for training. There are some limitations to the opt-out feature, as it only applies to messages posted in the streamer's own chat and not to messages in other channels.

While Amazon has been using Twitch data for AI model training since 2024, the new setting provides Twitch users with a dedicated way to prevent their content from being used for future training. The company has not disclosed which of its AI models have been trained on Twitch content, how long the data has been used, or the extent of its impact on products available to Amazon customers or third parties.
