Top diplomats of S. Korea, Fiji meet in Seoul for talks on energy cooperation, mutual ties

Seoul, August 13 - South Korean and Fijian foreign ministers met in Seoul on Thursday to strengthen bilateral ties and explore areas of mutual interest, according to the South Korean foreign ministry. The meeting came as both nations celebrated the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Fijian Foreign Minister Sakiasi Ditoka, who is currently in South Korea for the visit, expressed hope for deeper energy supply chain cooperation. Ditoka noted that countries across the Asia-Pacific region have been affected by the volatile security situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Cho Hyun, the South Korean counterpart, agreed that securing stable and resilient energy supply chains has become increasingly important.

The ministers agreed to enhance collaboration and maintain close consultations on energy supply chains. Cho emphasized South Korea's efforts to expand cooperation with Fiji in healthcare and energy, areas that Fiji has found particularly valuable. Fijian Foreign Minister Ditoka thanked South Korea for its support and requested continued engagement, particularly on climate change issues.

During the meeting, the ministers also discussed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Pacific region, agreeing to cooperate on consular issues, including protecting South Korean nationals in Fiji.
