Top Diplomats of S. Korea, Fiji Discuss Energy Cooperation, Bilateral Ties

On Thursday, the foreign ministers of South Korea and Fiji convened in Seoul to discuss bolstering bilateral ties and exploring opportunities in various sectors of mutual interest, according to a statement from Seoul's foreign ministry. Cho Hyun, the South Korean foreign minister, engaged in discussions with Sakiasi Ditoka, the Fijian foreign minister, who is currently on a visit to Korea. This meeting occurs as the two nations commemorate the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Ditoka conveyed his optimism regarding deepening cooperation with Seoul, especially in the realm of energy supply chains. He highlighted the significant impact that the volatile security situation in the Strait of Hormuz has had on countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region, making the need for stable and resilient energy supply chains all the more critical. Cho echoed Ditoka's sentiments, emphasizing that securing dependable energy supply chains has become increasingly vital.

The two diplomatic representatives agreed to enhance collaboration and maintain frequent consultations on the matter of energy supply chains. Cho further stated that Korea has been actively seeking to expand its cooperation with Fiji, particularly in the healthcare and energy sectors, which Ditoka acknowledged as highly beneficial for his country. Ditoka expressed gratitude to Korea for its support and concluded the meeting.
