Taraba University ASUU issues 14-day ultimatum, warns of industrial action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Taraba State University (TSU) has given the Taraba State Government and university management a 14-day ultimatum. The ultimatum urges them to fulfill the union's outstanding demands or face industrial action. Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, chairman of ASUU-TSU, announced this at a congress held on August 13, 2026.

The ultimatum, valid from August 13 to August 26, was issued in line with the National Executive Council (NEC) directives following the union's congress. The union expressed concern over the government's continued failure to implement provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement. ASUU has engaged the government in discussions, showing restraint to maintain industrial peace and academic stability.

However, they warn that this restraint should not be seen as acceptance of delays or waivers of members' rights. The union insists that where parties have negotiated and agreed through a recognized process, obligations must be honored within the stipulated time. ASUU demands immediate implementation of the agreement, payment of arrears and financial entitlements from January 2026, and urges the government to act urgently within the 14-day period to avoid escalating the dispute.
