Super League confirm NRL investment offer

The Super League has officially confirmed that they have received an investment offer from the Australian Rugby League Commission. Following last year's discussions, the two parties exchanged information on Thursday, though the specifics of the offer remain undisclosed. During a BBC Sport interview last October, NRL Chairman Peter V. Lanyon expressed concern that Super League faced a "crash" unless it found new revenue-growth strategies.

In April, NRL CEO Andrew Abbott dismissed fears that a potential collaboration between the two major rugby competitions could lead to a talent drain from Super League. Abbott emphasized that their aim was to strengthen rugby league in the UK and Europe, opposing any notion of it becoming a feeder program for Super League. NRL's Head of RL Commercial, Rodri Jones, described the ongoing negotiations between Super League and the NRL as "encouraging."

He reiterated that the NRL is open to investment and is seen as a natural partner in the current talks. Rugby League's Super League commenced in 1996 when the sport's premier European competition transitioned to a summer schedule. Hull KR claimed the Grand Final title last year, alongside St Helens, Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, and Bradford Bulls as the only teams to have won the championship.
