Cheong Wa Dae said that there is a need for a publicly owned apartment on the land of Yongsan Children's Garden.

The South Korean presidential office announced on the 13th that a public housing development is necessary at the "Yongsan Children's Garden," a site excluded from the real estate supply plan issued the same day. Ha Hyun-kyung, an economic growth policy official at the presidential office, appeared on CBS Radio and stated that "providing housing at this location is a very necessary task."

He recounted that the Yongsan Park, where the presidential office once stood, had been underutilized due to its vast size, with only a small fraction of its 74,000 hectares now returned to the public. Of this returned land, approximately 18,000 hectares were designated as the Yongsan Children's Garden and opened to the public in May 2023.

Ha Hyun-kyung suggested that building apartments on this returned land could benefit young couples and families. He added, "We need to discuss how to utilize this land at this location." Ha Hyun-kyung also noted that discussions with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon are ongoing, despite his opposition. He expressed confidence that the two parties will find a way to reconcile their differing views.

The presidential office recently announced 23 million housing units, including 12 million housing units expected to commence construction this year, as part of its housing expansion plans.
