High-profile terrorist commander killed in Bannu IBO: DPO

A highly wanted terrorist commander, Naseer Muhammad alias Geedarh, was killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Bannu, Pakistan, on Thursday, according to the Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Captain (retd) Muhammad Furqan Bilal. The DPO confirmed the terrorist's death, noting that he was identified as a high-profile commander with a Rs6 million bounty on his head.

The operation, conducted jointly by the Bannu district police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), targeted terrorists in the Domel Police Station jurisdiction under the supervision of DPO Bilal. The operation, involving targeted actions based on intelligence reports, is currently underway in Akbar Ali Khan Kili, Sada Khel, Sadarwan, and adjoining areas.

Search and surveillance operations are also underway in the area, and security has been tightened in various parts of Bannu township and Domel. The DPO stated that further details of the operation and its progress will be shared after the ongoing operation is completed. Terrorism has been on the rise in Pakistan since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021, with the Islamabad government urging the Taliban to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil, a request that has gone unheeded.
