“이대로는 선거 전멸”…여당 의총, 부동산 정책 우려 터져나와

The ruling party's parliamentary meeting on the 13th revealed strong concerns over the government's property policies. It was suggested that if things continue as they are, the 2028 general election could see the defeat of Seoul and Gyeonggi. At the meeting, a number of MPs, including I Yun-hui, S Yang-gyo, T Hyun-hui, and I So-yeong, expressed their opinions.

The majority of the MPs argued for the need to compensate for the policy of allowing a single main residence exemption for non-residents. I Yun-hui stated, "Increasing taxes on non-residents who own one main residence would have a very negative impact on the upcoming election. If the policy goes through, all 149,000 such residents would become opponents of the government."

Another MP, H Hong-gyu, said, "Even holding a new Seoul mayoral election would not change the fact that the Democratic Party cannot win in Seoul. Introducing a property tax or reducing the exemption for non-resident main residence owners could be seen as 'filling the pockets of luxury houses' by the public in the capital region."

Some MPs suggested the need to modify the policy, with T Hyun-hui stating, "Protests in various regions would become severe. (The upcoming special mayoral election or general election) is a serious crisis." Some MPs also argued that introducing a tax on property might be perceived as the government 'setting the price of houses through taxes.'
